UTAH Beach BIGOT MAP
This original map of Utah beach is made up of hundreds of aerial photographs stitched together to make one large map.
This type of map was produced for use in D-Day briefings so that every soldier could learn the local area in relation to their specific operation instructions. Like all Neptune planning documents this map was only issued to people with “BIGOT” status and most were serial numbered too to make sure the plan was kept secret right until a week before the actual invasion.
The slightly ironic thing is the map marks the planned landing locations which on D-Day the invasion fleet drifted about a mile down the coast towards the location of the Utah Beach Museum.
BIGOT planning maps are very rare and this type of map was limited to an issue quantity of 3000.
